Båt åland finland

History lovers can visit the Kastelholm Castle, a medieval fortress with fascinating exhibits, or explore Åland’s seafaring heritage at the Maritime Museum and aboard the historic four-masted ship, Pommern.

With its mild summers, midnight sun, and peaceful atmosphere, Aland is ideal for families, couples, and solo travelers seeking a relaxing escape off the beaten path.

Another nice photo is the red, pyramid shaped beacon on the other side of the quarter. During summer Järsö is a popular excursion destination for bicycle tourists, who can enjoy having the sea on both sides as they bike over the bridges between the islands.

Planning to travel to Aland by ferry?

Shipping is still a strong industry in Åland, today mainly thanks to the tax exempted passenger cruises between Finland and Sweden. The ship is open for visitors during the warmer seasons in the year.

Being a sailor on these ships was a hard life. In 2019 a dock was built around the ship, to make maintainance of her steel hull easier.

Mariehamn is a peninsula with ports on both sides: The Eastern harbour with leisure boats and entertainment, and the Western harbour for receiving large cruise ships and cargo. Please note that the ships make only a brief stop at the ports in Åland. Winter crossings are quieter but still operate regularly, depending on the route and weather.

ALAND FERRY TICKETS

Travel to Aland by ferry and enjoy a unique experience across the waters of the Baltic Sea.

With flexible schedules, modern ships, and unbeatable views, your journey to Aland can be as enjoyable as the destination itself. This journey across the Baltic Sea offers a blend of Nordic charm, island exploration, and the freedom to discover at your own pace. Several more beacons were constructed, including the red-black striped Marhällan beacon.

In the past it was common for local boys to "go to sea" and muster in the merchant fleet as soon as they were ready at 14-15 years of age.

As shipping moved on to more modern navigation means, the need for specialized pilots diminished, and in 1972 the station at Kobba Klintar was closed. The ferries also carry vehicles.

In 1910 a larger building was built to house an enormous foghorn, that is still functional to this day. The road passes through nature reserve Espholm, where you can do a detour on a forest trail to a small beach. + 358 18 25600
